ITIFT*: Willful Blindness

I really enjoyed this Ted Talk by Margaret Heffernan on the concept of willful blindness…that maddening ability humans have to “not know” things we’d rather pretend aren’t happening.

I found it particularly timely given the national security and privacy issues we are finally starting to talk about of late.

I’m confused by the amount of shock there is about how much of our communications have been under surveillance over the last decade+. It strikes me as a classic case of willful ignorance because, seriously, how did anyone not know. Also, where is the line between whistle blower and traitor when the subject is national security?

If you have thoughts, share ‘em below.
